John William Farber passed away on Thursday, March 31st after several years living with a chronic illness. John was born in 1958 in Washington, DC to John C. and Janet B. Farber but spent his childhood and young adulthood in Brentwood, NY before moving to Pennsylvania where he lived for over 30 years. He was a hard worker, who after graduating high school at seventeen worked his way up in the service industry. From a cook at Red Lobster to general manager, he eventually used his skills in management to become a prominent leader in the hospitality, senior living, and nursing home administration industries. He was a charismatic boss, passionate about providing an excellent experience to people he served. He is survived by his wife, Maria Luz of St. Cloud, FL. His children from a previous marriage to Barbara Runge of Douglassville, Pa- son, Jared Farber and his wife Rachael, daughter Megan Bennett and her husband Richard, youngest daughter, Jessica Farber; Step children with Maria – Clara and her husband Carlos, Laura, Julian; Sister, Jean Birk of Patchogue, NY and her husband Arvo as well as his niece and God-daughter Madeline Birk. He lit up when he was in the kitchen, where you could find him bringing family and friends together by smoking meat, BBQ-ing, and making any simple meal amazing. In his later life, he also began a new hobby in baking, where he did not disappoint either. He won cooking competitions for his unique creations in everything from apple pies to chili. Volunteering at Hopewell Christian Fellowship for men’s meals and other various events, his gift was service in the kitchen and brought many people together in this way. John was on the Board of Directors at Welsh Mountain Medical Group where he volunteered for over 20 years. Another passion of his was cars; from Jeeps to his award winning 90s Acura, John kept a clean and organized garage and found peace in pristinely detailing cars and had involvement with various car clubs. John was a great man and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
