Albertana Ramos

“Dime con quién andas, y te diré quién eres.” Albertana (Berta) Ramos Torres, 90, passed away on Sunday, December 8th, 2024, unexpectedly. Even though her heart stopped beating and took her from this world, her loving heart left a beacon of light for all of those who knew her. Berta was born on September 14th, 1934, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico. Born to the union of Valentin Torres Diaz and Bernarda Rodriguez. She was the 10th child of twelve brothers and sisters. At the age of 18, Berta moved to Brooklyn, New York where she met a young man, the love of her life and lifelong companion, Rafael Ramos. To this marital union on December 24th, 1954, was born six children: Luis Rafael, Norberto (Tito), Bertha Migdalia (Dally), Jeffrey, Jeanette, and Jaime. Berta and Rafy shared the joy of welcoming to their family ten grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Berta was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for over 40 years. She proudly served and tended to the priests who lived at the church. She was also a participant in a women's group known as ‘Christian Mothers’. She sang in the Spanish choir and played the role of the Virgin Mary in Mercy’s Passion Play. Berta’s greatest honor as a Catholic was when she was chosen and commissioned to be a Eucharistic minister. In her heart, serving as a eucharistic minister was the most beautiful and sacred way to participate in the holy mass, as well as a way to serve her community by bringing communion to the sick. Berta was a strong willed, giving and loving woman. She cared and loved her family with every sense of her being. She was known for her healing abilities through massages. Berta was a pilar of her community, volunteering as a teacher’s aide at P.S. 41 and proudly served all those in need. Berta is survived by five of her six children: Luis, Dally, Jeff, Jeanette, Jaime. Her 2nd born, Tito, passed away before her in January of 1998, as did her husband Rafy who passed on October 8th, 2022. She loved her grandchildren: Luis Jr., Lisanette, Yalitza, Juan Jr., Iris, Stephanie, Elias, Ciara, Charly, and Prince. As well as her great grandchildren: Cesar, Sherry, Tom Jr., Christian, Aniya, Ethan, Juan, Ricardo, Indira, Nyla, Sade, Darius, and Ameris. She was also blessed with eight great-great-grandchildren: Saphira, Rhea, Rafael, Ronnie, Liliana, Jaylin, Layla, and Lily. May her proud corazón live on through them. 🤍
